As little as fifteen years ago Nuevo Vallarta was just an oasis of untouched white sandy beaches. Nestled between Puerto Vallarta and Bucerias, Nuevo Vallarta had very few residents because, despite the beauty, it had not yet been developed. It was necessary to navigate dusty roads and jungle terrain before reaching miles of pristine white sandy beaches and the beautiful waters of the Pacific Ocean teeming with whales, dolphins and a plentiful sea life. Banderas Bay is noted as one of the top fishing locations on the planet and each year hosts a variety of sport fishing tournaments.

Ten years ago, Nuevo Vallarta's growth started with a planned development including a marina, inland waterways and suburb-like residential areas. Developers then began building resort hotels, homes, condominiums and golf courses by incorporating the natural harmony and landscape of the area.

In 1999 the new four-lane highway was completed from Puerto Vallarta to Punta de Mita, which put Nuevo Vallarta squarely on the map. Instead of a 30-minute adventure drive from downtown Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta was now less than 10 minutes away.

Today, Nuevo Vallarta has moved beyond a planned development into a full-fledged community.  With the initial enormous success of the resort and residential developments, Nuevo Vallarta now offers not only a popular tourist destination, but also a thriving second home and retirement options to foreigners, mostly Americans and Canadians.

Nuevo Vallarta residents and tourists alike now can experience the mini Zoo located at Paradise Village, tour the inland waterways to bird watch or view the magnificent homes which are tucked away behind the jungle canopies. The Dolphin Adventure is where you can swim with the dolphins and/or see the shows they offer daily. For shoppers, there is Paradise Plaza, which features over 100 stores, cafes, boutiques, restaurants, banks, supermarket and a myriad of other shopping delights. The community also offers a European Health Spa for those who just wish to take a time out.

Nearby you will also find three 18-hole championship golf courses- El Tigre, the Mayan Palace and Flamingo’s.  In Puerto Vallarta you will find the Marina Vallarta golf course as well as the two Vista Vallarta golf courses, home of the 2002 World Golf Championship.
